Getting from Phuket to Phi Phi Island is easy, but there are more choices than most travellers expect: big ferry or speedboat, Tonsai Pier or Laemtong Beach, morning or afternoon. Quick answer
- Ferry: about 2 hours from Rassada Pier (Phuket) to Phi Phi. Steadier and has room for luggage.
- Speedboat: about 1 hour. Faster, with more departures a day, but bumpier.
- Where you land: most boats arrive at Tonsai Pier, the main village. If your hotel is on Laemtong Beach in the north of the island, choose a Laemtong ticket so you are dropped close to your resort.

Ferry or speedboat?
Choose the ferry if you are carrying full-size luggage, travelling with young children or older relatives, or tend to get seasick. The big boats are steadier, and you can move around on board.
Choose the speedboat if you are short on time or want more departure options. Note that the speedboat is not suitable for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma or back and joint problems, or for pregnant women, and it is not recommended for infants.
Tonsai Pier or Laemtong Beach?
Tonsai is the main pier, next to the village, restaurants and most guesthouses. Laemtong is a quieter beach area in the north of the island with several resorts. There are no roads for cars on Phi Phi and Laemtong is far from Tonsai, so landing on the right side of the island saves you an extra boat ride with your bags.
Before you go: practical tips
- Pickup time: for the 08:30 boat, hotel pickup in Phuket is usually around 07:00. Your exact time is in your voucher.
- Which gate: Andaman Wave Master ferries use Rassada Pier Gate 3, Andaman Wave Master speedboats use Gate 1 (Counter 3), and Phi Phi Cruiser uses Gate 2. Your voucher shows the right one.
- Luggage: on the Andaman Wave Master ferry, one bag up to 25 inches plus one small bag per person is included.
- Pier fee on Phi Phi: Tonsai Pier charges a small fee per person, paid in cash on arrival.
- Booking deadline: book by 18:00 (Thailand time) the day before you travel.
- Cancellation: free cancellation up to 2 days before your travel date on the Andaman Wave Master tickets. Check each ticket page for its own rules.
- Going on from Phi Phi: you can continue to Krabi (Ao Nang, Railay) or Koh Lanta the same day or later — see our other ferry tickets.

Yes. Take a morning boat (08:30) and come back on an afternoon boat (14:30 from Tonsai). You will have a few hours on the island. If you want to see Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon, an island-hopping tour is a better choice.
